TRACK Trails for Kids
The Partners are proud to sponsor projects like the first TRACK Trail in the State of Tennessee. TRACK Trails are part of the popular Kids in Parks program, an expanding network of family-friendly outdoor adventures located in multiple states. Each TRACK Trail features self-guided brochures and signs that turn each visit into a fun and exciting outdoors experience. Best of all, kids can earn prizes for tracking their adventures. Snorkeling in the Cherokee Forest
The Partners have supported this very unique outdoor adventure for visitors of all ages. Under close supervision, adults and children don wetsuits and snorkeling masks to enjoy the clear, clean waters and view the abundant aquatic animals. Individuals and non-commercial groups may go to any stream to snorkel. This project is sustained through the efforts of Forest staff, trained personnel, and support from the Partners.
ECO DAYS Bring City Students To The Forest
One of our most popular program to date is “Eco Days”, which is designed to bring school children into the Forest for immersive experiences with local Native American Culture, traditional tools, outdoor activities, and forest conservation. Although students live in surrounding urban and rural communities, many have never spent time in a natural forest habitat.
NEEF Every Day Events Grant
Partners of the Cherokee National Forest recently received a grant from the National Environmental Education Foundation to host three separate events in the Cherokee National Forest. Volunteers will assist with trail maintenance and site clean-up. Another goal is working with local youth groups and the Conasauga River snorkeling program. Two different groups will be given funds to cover the participation fee for their members, who will come out and learn about the aquatic diversity of the Forest and its rivers and streams.
